Cloud Cult - Feel Good Ghosts (Earthology Records, 2008)

Que un primer disco sea fabuloso puede ser casualidad, que el segundo lo sea aún mejor empieza a convertirse en costumbre, pero que el tercero supere todas las espectativas ya viene a colocarles en el olimpo de los grupos de culto.

Ya publicamos con anterioridad "The Meaning of 8" y "Advice From The Happy Hippopotamus" pero con este " Feel Good Ghosts" llegan a una calidad creativa solo al alcance de unos pocos. Verdaderamente inclasificable e incalificable, en él podemos encontrar todas las influencias pop y rock que podamos echarnos a la cara. Con el barroquismo y la arrogancia de los canadienses, la sapiencia estilistica de los nórdicos, la frescura de los británico y la magnifica producción de los estadounidenses. Elementos de instrumentación clásica, guitarras electricas y acusticas, baterias programadas, teclados, samplers,... y unas melodias para enmarcar. Sin duda alguna, lo mejor que podemos escuchar en lo que va de año.

Cloud Cult son Craig Minowa, Connie Minowa, Sarah Young, Scott West, Shannon Frid, Shawn Neary, son de Minneapolis y no salgais corriendo a comprarlo porque no se editará hasta el mes de abril.

Ya que ayer Bornage subió el album de The Cribs, Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever, pues yo hoy voy a subir el que para mí es el temazo del album, Men's Needs, un trallazo de tema y un vídeo "especial". Es un album muy muy recomendable, merece la pena oirlo. Así que si no os descargastéis el album, ved el vídeo, condición suficiente para que automáticamente lo descargéis, repito si no lo habéis hecho ya. Además, os traigo a The Moog, un grupo húngaro que suena como si hubieran nacido en Gran Bretaña, con su tema Survive. Vienen de gira a España así que pasaros por su myspace quizás pasen por vuestra ciudad, http://www.myspace.com/moogband. Para terminar, la que puede ser la gran revelación del año a nivel español, The blows, desde Vigo, bastante postureo, buen album, y algún que otro single, como Sin City Lies que te harán bailar..Por cierto, creo que están de gira, entrad en su myspace para más información (http://www.myspace.com/theblows). Lu ya subió su album hace un par de semanas, así que como ocurría con The Cribs, os animo a descargarlo.
Perdonad por la baja calidad de los videos de The Moog y The Blows, no los he encontrado mejores..

Singles..

Ya que no sé muy bien cual es mi tarea en el blog y como aún tengo algún que otro "temazo", desde mi punto de vista, pues procedo a mostrároslo y haber que opináis..La primera canción es de un grupo británico Captain Phoenix, cuyo guitarrista es hermano del cantante de Razorlight (un dato anecdótico), está bien la canción, de momento sólo han editado unos cuantos singles, el actual es Loveliness. El otro tema, de The New Puritans es un hitazo que oí el otro día en FlyMusic, que por cierto parece que van a cerrarlo - qué pena¡ - y es un hitazo en toda regla. Como tema final, creo que cada momento de nuestra vida tiene una canción y en este momento para mi ese tema es The Funeral de Band of horses. Éste último es un añadido, comentad sobre ellos.
PD: subid sus 2 albums, están bastante bien.

La verdad es que poca música estrictamente electrónica me llega y me atrapa.

The Field es un proyecto sueco de un sólo hombre, Axel Willmer, y que ha sido definido como techno minimalista, ya os imaginais por donde va la cosa... ¿aun no? ahí va.

The Field se encarga de crear música a base de loops repetitivos, pero no machacantes, más bien, suaves y que rayan en la dulzura, es música que lo mismo te relaja que te hace bailar. Ambient bailable (?!)

Especialmente me gusta su virtud de que es bailable pero también cerebral, es electrónica inteligente, no se que tanto caiga en la categoría IDM, que de paso puedo decir es una etiqueta odiosa... pero que facilita las cosas, como todas las etiquetas en la música.

"Over the Ice" es otra canción que me inspira a conducir por la noche, su caja de ritmos recae en el trance, pero son "The Little Heart Beats So Fast" y "Everyday" la más electronica-convencional/dancey. Y es "Sun and Ice" una de las melodías que mejor demuestran el minimalismo que impera en este proyecto.

Como lo dije antes, poca música electrónica me convence, The Field se encuentra en esa minoría.

Dos singles

Soy nuevo por estos lares y ya que es mi primera entrada, como no tengo muy claro que poner y como escribirlo, intentaré ser breve. Os voy a dejar un par de vídeos, el primero, el nuevo single de The Futureheads, llamado The beginning of the twist, que a su vez, también será el nombre de su album que se editará a a partir del 10 de marzo. El segundo, el también nuevo single de The Young Knives, Up all night, que pertenece al album Superabundance, que curiosamente saldrá a la venta el mismo día que el de The Futureheads, el 10 de marzo. Australia nos ha dado bastantes sorpresas en los últimos años. Y una de ellas se llama Soft Tigers, un trío de Sidney que hace del punk un ejercicio adolescente propio de nuestra década pop. Así de sencillo. Gospel colegial para amantes del funk. Oh yes!

Se formaron en el 2005 y a finales del 2007 debutaron con un disco sorprendente: Gospel Ambitions, cuya publicicación se dio en realidad en un cassete. Sí, muy casero y emotivo. En la máxima expresión del DIY británico pero con resultados a gran escala. Su canción "María" fue una de las más mencionadas en los blogs especializados de la red, desde la propia Australia hasta Japón e Inglaterra pasando por Estados Unidos. Además del remix de este mismo tema que les hicieron sus coterráneos de Bumblebeez y que sonó y sonó en las fiestas underground de varios países.
Aplausos, guitarras punk, voz pop, detalles electrónicos y mucho espíruto adolescente conforman su disco debut que en realidad es cassete. No los pierdas de vista si quieres un back to the roots en torno al punk actual. Geniales.

Central Musical

Central Musical lleva ya un tiempo en la red y tal vez la conocéis, es el primer portal a nivel MUNDIAL que se dedica a difundir música en directo los 365 días del año y ha sido generado íntegramente en España. Desde su nacimiento, cuenta con más de 750 actuaciones de diversos estilos musicales a través de su Web. Ha inaugurado su sede en Portugal y busca expansión a través de su participación en festivales musicales pan europeos.

Apabullante y arrollador. Sin más paliativos, escuchen y critiquen lo que quieran pero ésta es la realidad: nunca un debut había generado tantas expectativas previas y nunca antes ésas expectativas se cumplieron tan por encima. “Upskirts”, el debut de The Blows viene a confirmar una escena rock, post punk y new wave en Vigo que recupera el espíritu de aquella otra movida paralela en los ochenta de esta ciudad portuaria, gris y post deprimida, caldo de cultivo idóneo para desgarrar con canciones la rabia, sueños y frustraciones de una generación veinteañera más allá de los tópicos.

“Upskirts” no es una carta de presentación, es un tartazo en la cara a todos aquellos que piensan que la escena musical independiente en España está mil pasos por detrás de la británica. Su rock vacilón y sexy, emparentado con el de Iggy Pop & The Stooges, Talking Heads o más recientemente Libertines o Strokes, con una inyección de vida nocturna y unos aderezos de baile, convierte a The Blows en uno de los pocos grupos capaces de exportar su sonido sin vergüenzas ni envidias, no en vano, el propio Alex Kapranos de Franz Ferdinand les dio el beneplácito a su primera maqueta o Babyshambles, con quienes compartieron cartel en el Festival Paredes de Coura 2007 (ojo!, contratados aún sin disco en el mercado) aplaudieron su actuación desde el escenario.

Más allá de las comparaciones, la personalidad de The Blows es tan apabullante, que incluso se enfrentaron y desecharon las mezclas propuestas por Cristian Vogel, el genio que se esconde detrás de algunas remezclas de Mäximo Park o Radiohead por ejemplo. Su concepto de cómo debían sonar estaba tan claro en sus cabezas que no dudaron en regrabar y remezclar, repasar y volver a grabar, agudizar y puntualizar ellos mismos algunas piezas. El resultado: rock en vena, tal y como demuestran en sus potentes directos.

“Sin City Lies” es toda una declaración de intenciones: […] Find me and satisfy me […] Actitud descarada para una banda que ha mamado del punk en vinilo y clubes y que lo transmiten tal y como lo han vivido. “Damn 80’s Hooker” ó como se ve la vida después enamorarse una noche salvaje. “We Want You” es sencillamente todo un hitazo. “Clint Eastwood” aporta una etiqueta a esto de los géneros: western rock o “Disco” la mutante versión rock de una tema destinado a la pista de baile con las aportaciones electrónicas de Vogel… Ingredientes más que suficientes para convertir a The Blows en la nueva esperanza del indie rock nacional.

Esto es una pasada. Así que ¿por qué cortarse..? Estamos ante el debut nacional del año aunque el tipo provenga de Tasmania y halla recorrido medio mundo hasta aflorar en Madrid.

Podría contar que, en realidad, Aaron es el otro hijo de Tim. El hermano secreto de Jeff Buckley que, al fin, decidió dar la cara. Y colaría… Su acrobacia vocal es tan punzante y afligida. Pero hay más. Rebasa a Jeff en versatilidad y cercanía. De hecho, su música es mucho mas variada. Más ágil y luminosa. Se mueve sutil, cadenciosa, en un generoso oasis de estilo, sensualidad y mobiliario existencial doméstico.

Son canciones onduladas que gatean felinas en círculos cálidos de bohemia urbana. Herederas naturales de los Buckley, sí, pero mucho mas Tim que Jeff, afortunadamente. Eso quiere decir que evocan aquellos maravillosos ritmos deslizantes entre el folk, el jazz o el rock hippie como pocos en la actualidad recuerdan. Complots semiacústicos -con Aaron a las guitarras y piano-, surcados por mil detalles, que avanzan frágiles (Descending) o iracundos (Kill the city) impulsados por hotrods y contrabajo en un trenzando mágico de carnosa ingravidez.

Me explico. Es seducción al primer acorde. Descending, inicia ya una invitación irremediable que tras el impacto sorpresa te acomoda en un espacio distinto, propio, donde una exquisita trama rítmica se entrelaza en la línea melódica avivando una increíble sensación de peso emocional y, a la vez, etérea. De canciones esbeltas, sinuosas como no has oído en años, dando vida a un fantástico ritual de exorcismo interior que enfoca el intricado universo de las relaciones: dependencias, equívocos y servidumbres. Un diario de a bordo de bajadas y superaciones por alguien, insisto, que parece saber de que habla.

Así, una tras otra. Hasta 12. Sin desperdicio. Una criba fantástica -supongo- del extenso bagaje acumulado en estos años previos. Y es que Aaron es un músico bendecido especialmente por la gracia de la melodía. Descendiente involuntario de los grandes autores de los finales 60. Pasa de rocker vulnerable ( Claterring) a crooner afligido (Any more). De Nick Drake a FrankBlack. O incluso a la trémula entonación del Marc Bolan (pre-T.Rex) de Tyranosaurus, en temas como Wasted or Crazy, otro de los momentos cumbres del disco con punzante estribillo.

Follow the elephants conjura reflejos dorados de Tim Bucley, Neil Young, Ian Matthew pero también de autores mas próximos como Will Jonson(Centromatic), Jeff Tweedy, Ryan Adams o Thom Yorke… En un bucle mágico del eterno retorno que anuda pasado y futuro

Pero es, ante todo, un disco ligero y estimulante. Entre el salón y la calle. Música que golpea tus sentidos con calidez, inspiración y, lo más importante, con inesperada sorpresa.

La apuesta segura es la madre de las tranquilidades, fuente de paz contra esos sobresaltos musicales que unas veces son fuente de ilusionante diferencia y novedad y otras insoportable experimento con traje de genialidad.

Lek Mun se colocan en el terreno de la estupenda ejecución y talento a raudales (músicos de solvencia y experiencia dilatada que son una delicia) metidos en faena con el trip hop (sí, por aquí sigue todavía), pop con burbujas de jazz y trillones de bienhacer. Una producción de esas para exponer en una clase de escuela de sonido que incluye alguna sorpresa (ese teclado en “Finally Over”) y texturas de maestros de la elegancia (los siempre discutidos Air en los sonidos de Rhodes ). “Infraleve” (su álbum de debut) es ese amigo ingeniero, ese novio perfecto que le encantaría a tus padres y odiarían tus amigas solteronas. Su mayor peligro es verles perderse entre el mar de propuestas actuales, que no sepan encontrar ese motivo por el que sobrevivir a las influencias, a esa negativa del que no haya traspasado la barrera de la frialdad que dan las cosas tan bien hechas.
